In a bid to foster collaboration between the health and defence sectors, the Founder and Pro-Chancellor of Margaret Lawrence University, Mr Paul Odili, led a high-profile delegation on a courtesy visit to the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, on Friday, March 7, 2025.
Accompanying Mr Odili were members of the university's Governing Council, the Vice Chancellor, Professor Ernest B. Izevbigie, the Clinical Director of Margaret Lawrence University Teaching Hospital, Dr Alejandro Rodríguez, and other senior staff from both the University and the Teaching Hospital. The delegation was warmly received at the Defence Headquarters in Abuja, where they engaged in fruitful discussions on mutual areas of interest.
During the meeting, Mr Odili provided an in-depth overview of the University and the Teaching Hospital, highlighting the institutions' achievements, cutting-edge medical facilities, advanced equipment, and the expertise of their academic and medical personnel. He emphasized the university's commitment to excellence in medical education, research, and healthcare delivery—an initiative that aligns with the nation's broader objectives of strengthening healthcare infrastructure and training top-tier medical professionals.
Recognizing the critical role of the military in disaster response, emergency medicine, and healthcare services for personnel and veterans, both parties explored avenues for collaboration.
As a mark of the growing relationship between the institution and the defence sector, Professor Izevbigie formally invited General Musa to deliver the keynote address at Margaret Lawrence University’s 2nd Matriculation Ceremony.. The defence chief expressed appreciation for the invitation and commended the university’s efforts in advancing medical education and healthcare services.
This engagement marks a pivotal moment for Margaret Lawrence University as it continues to expand its influence and impact in education, healthcare, and national development.
